The National Competitive Grants Program (NCGP) The NCGP funds excellent pure basic, strategic basic and applied research in all disciplines except medical research. Since 2001, the NCGP has comprised two sets of schemes: Discovery – supporting fundamental research and researchers Linkage – supporting collaborative research, partnerships and infrastructure The final report of the NCGP Policy Review was released on 22 July 2026 setting a clear direction for a revitalised NCGP. The review delivers a simpler, more coherent program that will make it easier to navigate funding, while continuing to support excellent research across Australia. New schemes under the revitalised NCGP will commence from 2027.
