Seeking Sector Feedback: Draft ARC FAIR Data Policy

We are seeking sector feedback on a draft FAIR Data Policy which would apply to future NCGP schemes. The new policy aims to embed the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reuseable) Principles into NCGP requirements and establishes consistent expectations for how ARC funded research data is managed, described and shared. The FAIR Data policy is a key component of the ARC Research Data Framework, and was outlined as an action in the ARC PID Action Plan

Noting current sector practice and limitations, the first version of the policy will focus on ‘Findable and Accessible’ with future updates to the policy expected to include additional measures that address ‘Interoperable and Reusable’.

The draft policy also provides guidance on responsible management of research data, consideration of Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles as well as other legal, ethical and security requirements.

If you would like to provide feedback to the ARC on this draft document, please email your comments by COB 16 September 2026 to arc-researchevaluation@arc.gov.au
