Professor Steve Larkin is a Kungarakan man from Darwin in the Northern Territory. He is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor Indigenous at Adelaide University.
A former social worker and with extensive experience as a senior executive, Professor Larkin has worked in urban, rural, and remote Aboriginal communities with state and federal governments, as well as Aboriginal community-controlled organisations in areas including higher education, employment, child protection, corrections, social health, substance misuse, and men and prisoners’ health. Professor Larkin’s appointment as Pro Vice Chancellor Indigenous Leadership at Charles Darwin University in 2009 was historic as he became the first ever Aboriginal person to be appointed to a senior executive position at any Australian university.
Professor Larkin holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Queensland University of Technology, a Masters degree in Social Science from Charles Sturt University, and a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Queensland. He also holds appointments on a number of other Boards and advisory panels.
