EI 2018: Dr Richard Gillespie, Consultant

Dr Richard Gillespie, Consultant

Dr Richard Gillespie currently works as a heritage and museum consultant; he previously managed the Humanities Department at Museums Victoria, which includes Melbourne Museum, Immigration Museum, Scienceworks and the Royal Exhibition Building, a World Heritage site. He has led the curatorial development of thirty exhibitions and associated public programs. Dr Gillespie trained as a historian of science at The University of Melbourne and the University of Pennsylvania, and has published widely on the history of science and technology and the history of museum collections. Dr Gillespie taught history of science and medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Deakin University and The University of Melbourne before joining the museum in 1990. Dr Gillespie has been a Fulbright Scholar (1980 to 1985), been awarded a Mellon Fellowship, Gordon Darling Fellowship, and received the Henry Schuman Prize of the History of Science Society (US). Dr Gillespie is a honorary principal fellow in the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies at The University of Melbourne and a honorary fellow in the Alfred Deakin Institute, Deakin University.
