Changes to gender specifications in ARC’s Research Management System

The Australian Research Council (ARC) is updating its gender specifications in the Research Management System (RMS) to align with the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ 2020 Standard.  

From Thursday 8 August 2024, the ‘Person Profile’ gender categories in RMS will reflect the following gender nomenclature in accordance with the ABS 2020 Standard:  

• Man or male 
• Woman or female  
• Non-binary  
• Different term (please specify) 
• Prefer not to answer    

Existing RMS users 
There is no requirement for existing RMS users to update their gender category. Users who wish to do so can log into RMS to update their ‘Person Profile’.  

New RMS users 
New users requesting an account in RMS must select their gender category when setting up their ‘Person Profile’.
