$40 million ARC Linkage Projects drives collaboration and innovation

The Australian Research Council (ARC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ms Judi Zielke PSM today announced funding of more than $40 million for 81 new projects under the ARC’s Linkage Projects scheme 2022 Round 1.

Ms Zielke said that collaborative research is fundamental to transforming industries, building communities, and strengthening the Australian economy.

“By supporting the development of partnerships, the ARC encourages the transfer of skills, knowledge, and ideas as a basis for securing social, commercial and other benefits of research,” Ms Zielke said.

The ARC Linkage Program promotes national and international long term strategic research partnerships between researchers and business, industry, community organisations and other publicly funded research agencies.

“I am pleased that there are 26 universities partnering with 210 organisations in these new Linkage Projects, with a total of $58.9 million in additional cash and in-kind support. This will help researchers, industry, and community organisations to drive innovation and deliver outcomes for the benefit of Australia.”

The awarded ARC Linkage Projects include:

University of Queensland ($259,608): through analysis of wastewater samples, working to identify opioid-use patterns to inform decision makers and provide a framework for a national opioid monitoring program.

University of Tasmania ($458,348): working to understand why children and young people in Out-Of-Home Care in Australia are absent from school more than their peers and informing a child-centred framework to enable attendance.

University of Wollongong ($540,183): working towards ensuring resilience of coastal ecosystems impacted by bushfires and aiding their long-term management in a changing climate.
