Australian Research Council
The ARC Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Ute Roessner AM FAA as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Australian Research Council (ARC).
Under the amended ARC Act, the ARC Board in consultation with the Minister is responsible for the appointment of the CEO. Professor Roessner was selected following a competitive, merit-based recruitment process to lead a stronger, independent ARC under the Board’s direction.
Professor Roessner is a renowned biochemist and innovative researcher who has made significant contributions to the field. She currently holds the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Initiatives and Infrastructure) at the Australian National University.

We are confident her leadership will assist the Board to drive reforms and further strengthen the ARC’s commitment to fostering high-quality research and promoting innovation,’ said ARC Board Chair Professor Peter Shergold AC.

Professor Roessner’s appointment is for 5 years, commencing on Monday 31 March 2025.
