ARC CEO Welcomes Review
The Australian Research Council’s CEO, Ms Judi Zielke, welcomes the announcement by the Minister for Education, the Hon Jason Clare MP, of an independent review into the ARC and its enabling legislation.
In a speech delivered to the Universities Australia 2022 Gala Dinner on Wednesday, the Minister foreshadowed an independent review of the role and function of the ARC, with a particular focus on the governance framework and reporting mechanisms.
“I welcome the forthcoming review of the ARC and its legislation,” Ms Zielke said.
“This offers a great opportunity to review our purpose and functions and modernise. The ARC legislation has not been substantially reviewed since it was established more than two decades ago – yet the challenges and needs of the research sector are now very different.
“The new review will lay foundations for changes the ARC needs to make to serve the research sector over the coming decade.
“The new review will also build on work the ARC has been doing recently on strategy and processes.
“The Minister has acknowledged the important work already underway in the ARC to improve our processes, and this work will continue.
“I look forward to contributing to the review and continuing to work with the Government and the sector to help shape Australia’s research environment and maximise the impact of public investment in Australia’s university research.”
