Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences Appointment joins ARC team

Bioanalytical chemist Professor Gavin Reid has been appointed as the ARC’s Executive Director for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences.

ARC Chief Executive Officer Judi Zielke PSM congratulated Professor Reid on his appointment.

“Professor Reid has made significant fundamental and applied contributions to the analytical sciences for chemical and biomolecular analysis,” Ms Zielke said.

Ms Zielke said that Professor Reid will join a well-respected team of Executive Directors at the ARC, comprised of academics drawn from the higher education and research sectors.

“ARC Executive Directors are respected researchers in their fields, with strong Australian and international research networks, who contribute their expertise to inform ARC programs, policies and peer review processes.”

“We are very much looking forward to Professor Reid joining us,” Ms Zielke said.

Professor Reid also holds appointments as the Professor of Bioanalytical Chemistry in the School of Chemistry and as a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacology at the University of Melbourne.

Professor Reid said he looked forward to promoting the vital importance of the highest-quality Australian research in the Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences.

“As the major supporter of foundational and applied research and research training in Australia, the ARC is critical to Australia’s research landscape,” Professor Reid said.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to represent these disciplines on the ARC executive, and to provide high-quality research advice that will help promote and shape the future of research funding, translation and impact within these fields in Australia,” he said.

“I also look forward to closely liaising with the research community to build trust and develop strong relationships, and to ensure that the ARC continues to meet the future needs of the sector.”
