$29.9 million in Linkage Projects to support research partnerships
The Australian Research Council (ARC) today announced $29.9 million in funding for 56 new projects under the ARC’s Linkage Project scheme 2024 Round 1.
ARC Acting Chief Executive Officer, Dr Richard Johnson, said the ARC Linkage Project scheme promotes national and international partnerships between researchers and business, industry, community organisations and other publicly funded research agencies.
“The strategic research partnerships we support through the Linkage Program encourage the transfer of skills, knowledge, and ideas vital for enhancing Australia’s research capability and securing commercial benefits,” Dr Johnson said.
“The Linkage Projects scheme supports projects which initiate or develop long term research alliances to identify innovative solutions to domestic and global challenges and acquire new knowledge.”
The awarded ARC Linkage Projects include:
Professor Conleth O’Loughlin, The University of Western Australia ($895,187): Anchoring Australia’s future in floating offshore wind – developing design guidance for the adoption of Suction Embedded Plate Anchors on floating wind farms to reduce the upfront costs of wind energy and support Australia’s target of net zero by 2050.
Professor Zhi-Yong Li, Queensland University of Technology ($261,631): Advanced Heart Simulator: Unveiling the Fluid Dynamics of Heart Valves – developing a human heart simulator for testing and validating prosthetic heart valves, to make them safer and more effective and support Australia’s progress in cardiovascular engineering.
Professor Rhonda Craven, Australian Catholic University ($1,005,058): Deadly Home Reading: Enabling Indigenous Children’s Literacy and Wellbeing – tests the effectiveness of a new parent/carer phonics, oral language, and self-concept enhancement home reading intervention on Indigenous children’s literacy, supporting Closing the Gap goals.
